Anastasia Lebedeva already had almost everything a website needed: photos of her work, a logo, a rough draft of her portfolio — all sitting in the cloud, along with a wish for a website of professional quality. At a Sunday meeting it turned out that a major exhibition, where Anastasia would be showing her work, was only three days away — and there was no website at all, not even a simple one.
Anastasia wanted a full, professional website — to match the photos of her work, her logo, and the portfolio she'd already put together. But there were three days left, and no website at all. A big dream and a tight deadline with a tight budget pulled in opposite directions: this called for a real solution, not a choice of one at the expense of the other.
We decided not to chase the dream website in the days that were left — that stayed on the table for later, once there was more time and budget. Instead — a compromise between the big "want" and the tight deadline: a one-page site built in two days, using the materials that were already ready — photos of her work, the logo, the rough portfolio text. A white background, warm dark-chocolate text, a magazine-style feel with no extra decoration: a compromise on timing, not on substance — even a small site should reflect the character and work of its author, not be assembled from faceless template blocks.
We made it right on time — Anastasia went into the exhibition with a working website, not just a portfolio sitting in the cloud. Later, when there's more time and budget, comes the full website she'd been dreaming of from the start.
